Villanueva de Oscos boasts
an outstanding historical and natural heritage.

Although Villanueva de Oscos is a rural area, it is close to all necessary services. Like its two companions in the region, the municipality of Villanueva de Oscos seems to the traveller to be a real haven of peace to enjoy a friendly and deeply peaceful nature that invites you to walk, hike, cycle, and of course always in a way that respects the environment. So much so that the council has developed numerous hiking and geocaching routes, as well as offering a network of tourist services where you can enjoy the typical atmosphere of western Asturias and the essence of its traditional cuisine.

The basis of this cuisine is the homemade and ecological production of bread, an experience that we will get to know when we visit the Bread Ecomuseum in Santa Eufemia, not only because of the guide’s explanations but also because we may be able to take part in a bread-making workshop. Throughout the area we can photograph the typical architecture of the area, that which the architect Félix Gordillo christened ‘naked architecture’, and which bases its identity on stone, black slate, wood and glass, and speaking of architecture, we cannot leave Villanueva without visiting the Monastic Complex of Santa María, located in the quiet capital of the municipality, Vilanova.

Furthermore, like other areas in western Asturias, Villanueva de Oscos was a gold mining reserve in the Roman Empire, and preserves the traces of those gold mines, as well as other iron, copper, lead and zinc mines.
