Collaboration in Municipal Events
The municipality of Quirós is celebrated for its stunning landscapes, rich natural resources, tranquil ambiance, and on-demand services.
It strikes a harmonious balance between rural living in a privileged and serene environment, all within a short half-hour drive from Asturias’ major cities. This municipality offers urban conveniences while promoting sustainability and giving residents the opportunity to savour top-notch local products. If desired, residents can even try their hand at growing their own veggies and raising livestock, all while enjoying the freedom to let their pets roam freely.

Quirós has an intense past and an attractive present. The richness of its prehistory is evident in the Neolithic burial mounds and dolmens of Alto La Cobertoria and Prau Llagüezos – the latter is well known for the Fiesta del Corderu, of Tourist Interest -; history is distilled in its many churches, mansions, its Castillo de Alba – near Arroxo – or its hermitages, such as that of Alba, from where a good part of the council can be seen, or that of Trobaniello, very close to the Camino de las Reliquias… As history, customs and traditional uses is what we can contemplate in its Ethnographic Museum.

Quirós, border and passage to the Meseta, has an open and friendly personality, and is a paradise for nature activities, forming an essential part of the Las Ubiñas-La Mesa Nature Reserve. Places such as Pedroveya – starting or finishing point of the Ruta de las Xanas or the Camín Real de Puerto Ventana -; Bermiego with its millenary texu; Valdemurio with its reservoir; Chanuces with its rural tourism centre; the Senda del Oso with its end in Santa Marina; L.lano with its climbing school, or Bárzana – the capital of the council -, always atmospheric, are unavoidable references for a complete and satisfactory journey.

Quirós has been one of the pioneers in rural tourism in Spain, it is a permanent meeting point for climbers from all over the world and as if that were not enough, it is a real ‘mine’ for industrial archaeology because its subsoil treasures abundant iron and coal, and its recent life in the 20th century was closely linked to geomining activities and industry, without forgetting that it is and was also a fertile and livestock-raising land.
