La Peral cheese
In the culinary realm, the council is renowned for its exquisite specialty, the renowned La Peral cheese. This artisanal cheese, crafted in the village bearing the same name since 1923, stands as a true culinary gem. This family enterprise, established by the visionary Don Antonio León Álvarez, has evolved into a bastion of modernity, incorporating state-of-the-art sanitary and processing techniques.
This cheese belongs to the blue cheese family, although it is actually a semi-blue one with a mild flavour.
At this very factory, they also craft the Peñoceo cheese, named after the district of La Peral, featuring a delightful creaminess. Additionally, they produce the renowned La Peral cream, a cherished ingredient for creating sumptuous sauces and creams.

Gorfolí fresh cheese
Made in Taborneda, is the ideal accompaniment to honey or quince jelly. It is also prepared as cottage cheese.

An inherently rural municipality, blessed with pristine natural landscapes and an advantageous location that boasts good connectivity and amenities.

Paraíso de quesos azules y frescos, tierra de buen yantar, de molinos, sendas verdes y picos, Illas, siempre innovador, ostenta la distinción de poseer la primera piscina fluvial de Asturias
lllas is well known for the quality of its cheeses, authentic gastronomic gems that have put this territory in the centre of Asturias on the map. La Peral, one of the villages in this council, gives its name to one of its most famous cheeses, and Pico Gorfolí to another. Illas is, therefore, an area of good gastronomic products, handmade and well cared for, and also of good ‘llantar’ in a handful of restaurants, cider houses and eating houses that display their wisdom and know-how when it comes to preparing a good pot of cabbage, lamb, wild boar, ‘pitu de caleya’, tripe or sausages.

And to burn off the calories from these delicious menus, there is always the option of taking the Mills Route and the Gorfolí Peak Green Path, or to let yourself be carried away by the placidity of a swim in the first river pool in Asturias in the Sollovio area, with water from the Faxeras river… all the advantages of a river bath – including a bathing paddle – in a comfortable green setting, with excellent facilities.
