Cabrales is an extraordinary setting for the practice of all kinds of sports in contact with nature. In the municipality we have a rich fluvial fauna, with the now legendary salmon and oars, which attract many national fishermen, even from other countries, as well as the abundant trout, with the following total or partial salmon fishing grounds: Piedragoneru, Bártalo, Miñances and Mildón.

Cabrales offers you all the possibilities of high, medium and low mountains. It includes a large part of the Central Massif of the Picos de Europa, as well as parts of the Western and Eastern Massifs, and therefore has numerous peaks of over 2,000 metres in altitude, including the mythical Picu Urriellu or Naranjo de Bulnes 2,519 m), which is the icon par excellence of the Picos de Europa, Torrecerredo (2,648 m), which is the highest peak in the Cantabrian Mountains, El Albo (2,442 m), Neverón de Urriellu (2,559 m), etc. However, there are several medium-altitude mountain ranges, such as El Cuera, declared a Protected Landscape in the Asturias Natural Resources Management Plan, as well as Juan Robre, Portudera and Peña Maín.

The existence of a highly developed karstic relief attracts many climbing and caving enthusiasts to explore the numerous caves and chasms, for instance, the Trave System and the Torca de Urriellu, which are among the deepest in the world and have been declared Natural Monuments.
Hiking and mountain biking are sporting activities with great possibilities in our municipality. Paragliding, horse riding, canoeing and adventure sports in general have a privileged setting in Cabrales.

There are neighbourhood, festive and cultural associations
Cabrales is an idyllic mountain municipality with important tourist assets, such as the following:
The iconic Picu Urriellu, also known as Naranjo de Bulnes, the stunning Cares Route, the natural beauty of Picos de Europa, our majestic rivers, the rich cultural and architectural heritage, and the star gastronomic product: the Cabrales cheese. It is made from the milk produced by the herds of goats, sheep, and cows that graze the impressive mountain passes of the region.

A mountainous territory if ever there was one, Cabrales is in the vigorous heart of the Picos de Europa, as a large part of its territory forms the Central Massif of the Picos. There are many milestones in the form of summits and feats that we can highlight in Cabrales, but there is above all one that marks this land, the Picu Urriellu or Naranjo de Bulnes, the last conquest among the great European peaks, back in 1904, and which during the 20th and 21st centuries has continued to inspire great challenges. Cabrales thus joins its history to that of mythical names in exploration and climbing such as Pedro Pidal and El Cainejo – the pioneers – and so many others…some of whom even give their names to viewpoints such as Pedro Udaondo in Asiegu…And more names, this time of villages with views or with high mountain atmosphere and habits such as Pandiellu, Camarmeña, or Bulnes – with funicular railway included -, Tielve, Sotres or Poncebos…not forgetting the Cares Route and the river that gives it its name.

In addition to the great icons of limestone rock such as Urriellu, Horcados Rojos, Cabrones, Torrecerredo, there is also one that has to do with the livestock and grazing tradition of this land, and is the other that makes it universally known: Cabrales cheese, which even has a Cave-Exhibition in Arenas, and a busy festival.
